The market is up, or is it?

Today the market closed higher than it opened for the first time this week. Some people see this as good news, but I wouldn't be too sure about that. The market closed lower than the morning high, and there was heavy volume right at the day's end without a significant price increase. This could be a sign that large players are shorting lots of stock.
