Using forced closed shorts as indicator

This afternoon I came across a news article referencing the website buyins.net This website tracks stocks which have forced closed short positions. For those new to the terminology, a short position occurs when you allow your brokerage to borrow your money for someone else to purchase a stock. You can then close the position unless a forced close occurs. You make the difference between the price when the position is closed and the price when you open the position. Sound confusing? Lets clear this up. Take stock 123, which you buy short at $25.00 You close the short position a week later when the stock is at $20.00 You've lent your brokerage firm $25.00 to purchase Stock, which was returned to you when the position was closed. You owe $20.00, the current price of the stock, so you made $5.00 Short positions allow you to make money when a stocks price is expected to fall. However, here's the catch, short positions can be closed by the trading exchanges when certain conditions are met. When this occurs, traders are less likely to enter long term short positions, so a a stock has more potential to go up if less people are entering short positions. The website buyins.net thinks this is true, enough for them to charge for access to their data. However, they offer the option for someone to purchase several months of data to be released to the public whenever a signal occurs. This information is on the website. I checked the stocks listed, many of them did go up steadily after 1-2 weeks of the signal being given that most short position were forced close.
