Doing some back analysis, I noticed that when AAV had a day of trading with much higher volume than normal and closed the day much lower than open, this was actually a strong buy signal. Probably because this occurred when the stock price was near a two year low or all time low. I'll have to incorporate this into my scans, it seems counter intuitive, buy who would buy a lot of stock when the price is falling except when someone thinks the stock has bottomed out? A stock would only bottom out when near a multi-year low. I would only think of purchasing a stock like this short if the signal occurred after a rally.

I've sold all but long term trades due to market uncertainty. The market timings indicate corrections for FPFC. The overall market is correcting from a large gain over the past few weeks. I'm not sure if it is only a pullback correction or the start of a new downtrend.

The market is mixed, a few stocks at all time lows increasing a few points are having a larger percentage increase than many stocks at higher prices lowering. For example, Ford is in a corrective downtrend while FPFC is in an uptrend over the past few days. Either one could make a sudden correction to the reverse, but the overall sentiment on wall street is positive and I don't know why. Most of the news coming in is bad and there is so much manipulation of reported numbers that nobody should trust them (GDP, unemployment, cost of living, etc.)

Some speculators in energy have taken an early start in buying commodities. The summer low has in the past lasted through November, now it seem to be picking up in August?! That's crazy!!!

Thursday Picks

At end of day 7/23/2009:

There are many stocks to pick in this rally after a recent pullback. So, how does one go about picking stocks when so many are potentially doing well? I'd suggest picking stocks with unusually high volume when compared to their historical performance if the stocks are near an all time low. This is a strong sign of buying and of gaining interest in the company. Be wary of buying stocks at a high during a pull back rally, that is a strong sign the stock is over bought and due for a correction to the down side. Remember, for every buyer there is a seller and one of them is wrong!
