Stock Volume

What does the volume of stock traded tell us? That's the question I propose to everyone. In absolute terms, on a daily basis it tells us which companies had the most activity. However, this isn't a fair comparison, companies with larger floats or heavily hedged may have larger trade volumes that other companies. So, what is important?

I'll argue that the daily traded volume in relation to the average quarterly traded volume is important. This can show us signs or unusual interest in either buying or selling of stocks. Either may be a good buying opportunity depending on the market timings. From now on, the stock summary will show the top five stocks in each stock category ranked by daily volume / average quarterly volume. This stocks are worth investigating to see why the stock volume is heavily traded.
